Community Development Alliance (CDA-Ghana) is an independent, Ghanaian, women- and child-centred, youth-led non-governmental organization committed to advancing equitable, resilient and sustainable community development. We partner with women, children, young people and vulnerable populations to improve health and well-being, strengthen education systems, promote gender equality and social inclusion, enhance climate resilience, protect the environment, improve food and nutrition security, and build peaceful, thriving communities.
Headquartered in Ghana's Upper West Region, we work with communities, government institutions, civil society, academia and the private sector to co-design and deliver evidence-informed, locally led innovations. CDA-Ghana was founded in May 2008 by a group of visionary young leaders united by a commitment to lasting social change in Northern Ghana. In its early years the organisation operated entirely through volunteerism — mobilising communities around environmental conservation and tree planting, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality and social inclusion, peaceful coexistence, and access to education and preventive health services.
Over the past decade it has grown from a small volunteer initiative of three staff and thirteen volunteers into a respected national development organisation. Today CDA-Ghana employs 31 professional staff, works alongside 97 dedicated volunteers, and serves 467 communities across Northern Ghana — reaching an estimated 250,000 people through integrated programmes, guided by a Human Rights-Based Approach and locally led innovation.
